Slough Race Equality Council (SREC) is a grant-aided not-for-profit voluntary organisation. All SREC services are provided for individuals from all backgrounds and organisations in the Slough area.
OUR AIMS ARE TO
To support victims of racial discrimination and harassment through complainant aid and case work.
To remove barriers to access of services by providing a local translation and interpreting service.
To eradicate racial discrimination through partnerships with the public, private and voluntary sector, by planning and executing seminars, facilitate training and workshops, sharing inforomation and best practice.
WHAT WE OFFER
LEGAL UNIT
Free, confidential advice & assistance on discrimination and harassment (at work, at home, in education and training and in service delivery.
Complainant Aid & Individual Casework – advice and assistance to victims of discrimination from initial advice to representation at tribunals and other positive action remedies.
PUBLIC EDUCATION & TRAINING
Providing communities and organisations with information, training and resources on equality & diversity
Slough Training Unit: Embracing Diversity (STUED) has delivered training in various issues to hundreds of people (testimonials and external evaluation available on various race & diversity issues including Cultural Awareness & Diversity Awareness, Equality Legislation & its Practical Implementation, Racial Incidents & Harassment &Recruitment & Retention practices.
POLICY DEVELOPMENT
Advice and assistance and identifying solutions in partnerships with a wide range of individuals, communities & organisations. Various consultancy work undertaken.
Slough Leadership Challenge: works with various local member organisations across private, public and voluntary sectors to understand and implement equality & diversity into practice at all levels of the organisation.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Supporting local socially excluded, disadvantaged, and black & minority ethnic community groups and individuals to identify and find solutions and self-advocate their needs, develop new projects. Links, referrals and signposting, fundraising as appropriate, inter-community & cultural celebration events.
Connecting Communities: Slough Engaging & Empowering (SEE) – Community Empowerment Training, Action research about local inequalities, ImagineDiversity.com website and community resources
Community Champions Fund – intermediary organisation for small grant funding for individuals and small groups.
SLOUGH TRANSLATION & INTERPRETING SERVICE (STAIS)
Free training to local bi-lingual individuals to become skilled, accredited translators and interpreters. Co-ordinates paid employment on a sessional basis for assignments through STAIS. Currently has access to over 100 community languages.
