I > CAN Event March 2006
Over 50 people came together at the latest I > CAN event, on the one hand to celebrate the end of the Connecting Communities project in Slough, and on the other hand to gain an insight into I > CAN's future. The participants (Community Champions, Community Empowerment Trainees and Community Researchers) also evaluated the projects they have been involved in.

To date, at the 3 previous events the following has been achieved:

  • Community activists had the opportunity to discuss issues affecting local communities and activists in particular
  • A 'Working' Terms of Reference / Aims and Objectives for the group
  • Several master classes delivered by community activists on governance and other issues

On the agenda for this particular event were also short presentations by Community Researchers into their findings about community needs in Slough. The full report for the ChangeUp Additional Support Programme, based entirely on findings by the Community Researchers, will be made available soon on ImagineDiversity.com.

During this latest event, Evania and Jagroop from SREC also had a chance to say farewell to the community activists they have worked with over the last few years.

SREC has received a small pot of funding through ChangeUp, which will fund a part time worker over the next 6 months. This is great news for I > CAN, which is currently in its early development stages.

I > CAN is the first of its kind, a coming together of community activists, who want to share skills, knowledge and experiences so that they can achieve their collective goals in Slough. To find out more about I > CAN please click here.
